Target in March will launch a new fashion initiative called Designer Collaborations. The program will bring the styles of well-established designers to the mass merchant at typical Target prices. Alexander McQueen is the first on deck and will design a version of his McQ collection called McQ Alexander McQueen for Target. The collection will have rock 'n' roll influences and edgy details such as studs and tattoo-print fabrics. Designer Initiative is a separate program from Target's Go International, which focuses on young or emerging designers. Target said additional Designer Collaborations will be announced in the future. Visitors to the Caribbean can now take home a stylish, elegant reflection of Caribbean culture with the Liz Mannette line of fine jewelry and fashion accessories based on the Caribbean sounds of the steelpan.

Designed by a former Senator in Trinidad & Tobago, lawyer and author, Liz Mannette, the collection is available in duty free stores in Trinidad and Tobago, and in the premier shopping destinations of St. Maarten, Antigua and Grand Cayman.

The Collection has also been embraced by A-list Hollywood celebrities such as Jessica and Ashley Simpson, and the artists Pink and Natalie Cole. Top notch political figures including New York City Major Bloomberg and Trinidad & Tobago’s Prime Minister Patrick Manning; have also added the Caribbean element to their wardrobe.

The Collection was on the runway in LA at the Style LA: Swim and Resort Runway show hosted by the Kardashian sisters and recently in Toronto at the 2008 Caribbean Tourism Week fashion gala. “Ethnic Jewelry is very fashionable. Now those who love the sun, sand and music of the Caribbean can express their affinity for our rhythm with fine jewelry,” says Mannette.

Liz Mannette, the design company, was established in 2007 in Trinidad and Tobago, the birthplace of the steelpan. The designs are for people who love everything Caribbean, and come with customized packaging, product literature and a CD of steelpan music.

Pulse’s Gaye Mc Donald rocks the Catwalks of London Fashion Week
Posted : October 6, 2008, 2:26 pm

As the curtain came down on New York Fashion Week, the fashion jet set headed to Europe with the camera shutter bugs for the second installment in the world fashion series - London Fashion Week (LFW) and one of Pulse’s hot young stars Gaye Mc Donald was on hand to represent for Jamaica. The former Caribbean Model Search winner flew to London for more than tea and crumpets as she raked in runway mileage for a number of top name designers. Organized by the British Fashion Council, the bi-annual, six day affair welcomed fashion heavy weights such as Vivienne Westwood along with Stella McCartney, Luella Bartley and scores more presenting their Spring/Summer 2009 collections.

Before even arriving in London, Mc Donald was selected by fashion queen Vivienne Westwood for her Red Label collection. The ever avant garde Brit presented a myriad of stripes, prints, plaid in the form of hooded dresses, severely tailored jackets complemented by vintage hats and scarves. Gaye beamed in the highly glamorized collection rocking shapely dresses complemented by Westwood’s scarves.

The 5’9” French Vogue stunner was also was also in demand for the Naomi Campbell inspired “Fashion For Relief” project. Slated to assist the White Ribbon Alliance – an international coalition helping to promote healthy pregnancies and childcare, flawless models and the fashion A-List stepped out in high style to raise funds for charity. Gaye joined several celebrities on the catwalk including Naomi Campbell, R&B Singer Estelle, Male supermodel Tyson Beckford, Supermodels Agyness Deyn and Kate Hudson, US actress Mischa Barton and Outkast’s frontman cum fashion designer, Andre 3000.

As for the collections, Gaye made her S/S 09 debut at LFW on day one donning fabulous looks from the highly anticipated LFW regular, Caroline Charles. A forty year veteran of fashion, Caroline suited up the dark skinned beauty in a plethora of coloured ready to wear pieces before sending her over to another LFW favourite Graeme Black.

Having spent 15 years working with Italy’s finest fashion connoisseur Giorgio Armani and Salvatore Ferragamo, Graeme Black caressed the London runway under the theme ‘Seascapes of Scotland's Western Isles’. To a soundtrack of sea gulls calling, the Scottish designer presented tailored trousers, belted trenches with matching pencil skirts and woven leather tops ardently shaded in nudes, grey’s and whites. His ethereal organza full dresses played beautifully against Gaye’s dark skin, making her an absolute delight to watch as she sauntered down the English catwalk.

Mc Donald closed LFW 2009 with Antoni & Alison known across the Piccadilly circuit as the go-to-guys for playful fashion. Bringing a touch of surreal to their style, Gaye rocked the fabulous line of fifties and sixties inspired pencil skirts and accessories.

The fashion savvy Gaye McDonald has had a brilliant year capturing the attention of the industry’s elite and landing lead editorials for Marie Claire, Italian and French Vogue. Her ascent to stardom is barrier breaking and she shows no sign of slowing down. Gaye was discovered in and won Pulse’s 2005 Caribbean Model Search.
